Nintendo GameBoy Color Consoles
With mounting pressure to deliver the next great handheld console, 1998 saw the release of the Nintendo GameBoy Color. Although sporting a full colour screen and being the very first handheld device with backward compatibility capabilities, Nintendo’s latest offering was still considered by many to be inferior in terms of technology to its competitors, the SNK Neo Geo Pocket and the Japanese exclusive Bandai WonderSwan, given the fact that most of the hardware was almost unchanged from previous versions of the GameBoy.
The GBC though managed to blow the competition right out of the water and outsold the two alternatives combined - with plenty of room to breathe, too, Units shipped took the combined number of GameBoy and GameBoy Color sales to an astonishing 118.7 million until being discontinued in 2003 following the release of the GameBoy Advance SP.
Here at RetroPlayers, we aim to stock the Nintendo GameBoy Color (GBC) portable game console in a variety of colours with various modifications.
